In 2018, James was diagnosed with a rare appendiceal cancer and underwent an arduous ten-hour surgery to remove the tumor that also involved the removal of his spleen, omentum, peritoneum, gall bladder and appendix. Follow up scans in early 2020 revealed a recurrence of the disease. Faced with a grim and limited list of options James and his wife Emma resolved to look at possibilities outside the usual standard of care offered in the UK.

The vision offered by ennov1 was so compelling that James decided to join as a founding member. It is his belief that ennov1 will offer access to a range of treatment options tailored to his specific disease that are more attractive than the risks posed by attempting further surgery. Given the rarity of his disease he hopes that treatment options revealed through ennov1 will be of benefit to other patients who find themselves in a similar situation.
